Balance Training For The Young And Old

April 7th, 2010 by admin

I always felt that my lower body was strong. I’ve felt this way ever since I was a kid. Then I played a lot of sports. Today I do a lot of walking and cycling so I just figured that when challenged to balance on some balance pods recently at the request from my personal trainer I was in shock to find out my balance was a bit out of whack. Determined to do something about the problem I made balance training part of my fitness workout. And I must say after awhile good results are being made.

One other thing I thought about balance fitness was that it was an older person problem. I never thought that as an adult I would have difficulty navigating balance pods. But I was wrong. I saw plenty of young adults struggle with the pods during balance exercises. And these youngsters looked as strong as an ox. So why the problem for them? Body Builders develop lower body strength by working the large muscles. They seem to forget about their postural muscles. They seem to neglect their core. For balance fitness one needs strong abdominal muscles. Do this and challenging the balance pods will become an exciting exercise as part of your fitness regime.
