What Are Internet Service Providers Offering for Your Internet Dollar?

April 13th, 2010 by admin

The internet service providers are competing for your broadband dollar, and they are pulling out all the stops to get your attention. To find out the bottom line, begin by comparing them side by side, which is easy on the web with the right resource. You can compare for speed, cost, bundles, extras, equipment and more. Most ISPs offer three or four different speed tiers for you to choose from, so it’s important to determine what your personal speed requirements are so that you don’t purchase too much or too little speed. To determine the reliability of the service, talk to some of your neighbors and see which provider they use, and how satisfied they are with the service. Finally, compare a la carte prices to bundled packages and see if bundling makes sense to your individual circumstance. Don’t forget to factor in cash back rewards, free modems, and the like.

As an example, comparing DSL internet service in my area is easy with a side by side comparison chart of the two top providers nationwide. AT&T and Verizon offer basic service at virtually the same price. AT&T has no term commitments and offers online security suite. Verizon throws in a free modem and the first month free. The comparisons become important as you look on. AT&T’s Pro service (3 Mbps) offers $50 cash back incentive, free wireless modem, and free WiFi at 17,000 hot spots nationwide. Verizon, on the other hand, offers first month free ($29.99), and free wireless modem. It’s easy to check for availability as well with the convenient links.
